Homework in Key Stage 2

In KS2, we aim to issue the following homework weekly :

Literacy or topic-based research
Numeracy
Spellings
Timestables
Reasoning (optional for Year 5 only)

We expect all children to read every night in Lower Key Stage 2 and at least 3 times a week in Upper Key Stage 2 to an adult.  We focus a great deal on understanding the content of what is being read; asking a variety of questions about te content in order to ensure the children gain a full understanding of the plot, characters and themes.

While no formal homework is issued during the holidays, we encourage ongoing timestable practice and as much reading as possible. Occasionally, children may be asked to do informal research for a new topic.

The amount of homework could vary and this will be particularly noticeable when we are preparing the children for the Year 6 SATS tests.
