BLOG Term 2 November 2017

It hardly seems possible that we are already in the second term; so much has happened and we are already thinking about starting our preparations for Christmas!!!

This year one of the main areas for development in school is focused on improving the well-being of staff, pupils and the whole school community. What better way to encourage teamwork and respect for the needs of others than by spending time in our Woodland school.

Our Year 6 pupils spent a day outdoors, learning about woodcraft and outdoor skills, and every class now has regular opportunities to experience outdoor learning. On Children in Need day we found various groups of children in the woods, in pyjamas and onesies, drinking hot chocolate!!!!

As part of our community action, we once again made the Guy for the Eynsford Firework display and many of our children joined the procession, leading Guy Fawkes to the bonfire.

Children have auditioned again to perform in the Young Voices Concert at the 02, which takes place in January 2018 and many of them performed last week at the PTA Christmas Fair. This was a huge success and once again our thanks must go to the PTA for everything that they do to support the school and our children.

But they haven’t finished yet……have you reserved your tickets for the PTA Supper Club on December 2nd? See the hall transformed into a Winter Wonderland and enjoy some festive fayre prepared by the talented ‘PTA catering team’.

This week we welcomed 43 pupils from our twinned village schools in Camphin en Pevele, France. The day included a visit to St. Martin’s Church, the castle and the ford and a virtual tour of Castle Farm Lavender Fields. Many thanks to our wonderful staff who organised the activities throughout the day and to the band of parents led by Mrs McCarthy who served tea and cakes at the end of the day.

These are only a few ‘tasters’ of the exciting events that have taken place this term. As Christmas approaches there will be much more to experience, including the ‘not to be missed’ Service of 9 Lessons and Carols; this year being held at St Peter and St Paul in Farningham on Wednesday 13th December at 6pm.

The school diary is available on line, so please check for future events and make sure that they are in your personal calendars.

I hope that you found the recent opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher valuable, as it gives an insight into the day to day mechanics of the individual classrooms. Although much is consistent across the school, there will always be idiosyncrasies within each classroom. For those of you unable to attend the meetings, details have been shared on the website under the class pages, along with a copy of the termly newsletter.

Please keep a copy of this, as it will provide information useful throughout the term.

As we now have amazing playground equipment (provided by the PTA) that is used by children on a daily rota system, we have been inspired to encourage more opportunities for team games and pupil led activities over the lunch period. We are reviving the Year 5 Play Leader scheme; training Year 5 volunteers to organise small group games etc, with the support of the Midday supervisors.

And….. talking of the PTA

Every parent is automatically a member of the PTA – you don’t have to be on the committee to join in, so if you are interested please contact anthonyroperpta@gmail.com or come to the AGM on Thursday 21st September at 3.30pm in Mrs Pike’s room.

The school diary will soon be available on line, so please check in the next few days and put future events into your personal calendars.

There is much to celebrate and to look forward to. Thank you as always for your continuing support and encouragement.

Looking forward to working together with you and your children; sharing another positive and rewarding year.
